You have explored and practiced the following project management concepts thus far:
- PICOT Development
- Project Charter
- Scope of Work
- Communication Plan
- Project Deliverables
- Critical Success Factors
- Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)
- Gantt Chart
- Risk Register
- RACI Chart
- Kickoff event and PowerPoint Presentation
- Monitor and Control
Keep in mind that there are many other project management tools than those that have been introduced in the Executive CGE courses. We have selected a set of tools that we felt would be most valuable to the nursing leader to prepare them lead an organizational change initiative. To this point you have been provided with a set of tools that fit into a sample framework that prepares the leader to plan and begin execution (or implementation) of an organizational change project. In reality, most Executive CGE projects will continue well beyond the end of this course. You as the student may be the leader who continues to manage the project and see it through to completion. But…what if you aren’t? link to week 8
It is not uncommon for a project manager to be pulled off of one project and be assigned to another. Or, as a senior leader, your leadership may be required to manage another urgent matter and the project you are working on must be handed off to another person or team. If you have used the process and the tools provided here, the handoff will be relatively easy. You will have a comprehensive set of documents that chronicle the planning and execution (to date) of your project. This will be extremely valuable to the person or team receiving the project from you. But there are a few more documents to prepare as part of the handoff to the new project manager: Completion, Lessons Learned, and Project Sustainability.
