Enhancing Quality and Safety

Quality improvement in healthcare is of paramount importance as it not only improves patient outcomes but also reduces the cost of care.  In light of this, one of the quality and safety issues that affect the healthcare system is Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs).  HAIs are a key contributor to morbidity and mortality hence the need for an evidence-based approach that can reduce the incidence.  In light of this, this paper explores the causes of HAIs, causes, evidence-based interventions, and the role of nurses in care coordination and the stakeholders involved.

Factors leading to Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs)

Healthcare-associated infections are nosocomially acquired infections that are acquired in a hospital within 48 hours of admission (Haque et al.2018).  There are various types of HAI which may include catheter-associated urinary tract infections, ventilator-associated pneumonia, surgical site infections, hospital-acquired pneumonia, and central line-associated bloodstream infections among others.   One of the factors leading to HAIs include poor hand hygiene and aseptic technique by the healthcare providers……Unlock the Full Solution Now – Click to Get All Answers!”
